The APRS Direct website

APRS Direct is a website that brings you global real-time APRS tracking and weather data (including CWOP). Our goal is to bring you a fast and easy-to-use map with the latest APRS activity. We can achive fast real-time updates since each user browser will be connected directly to our own APRS-IS server (with no intermediate database-server).

What is APRS?

APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) is a digital communications system that uses packet radio to send real time tactical information (on amateur radio frequencies). The APRS network is used by ham radio operators all over the world. Information shared over the APRS network is for example coordinates, altitude, speed, heading, text messages, alerts, announcements, bulletins and weather data. APRS has been developed by Bob Bruninga, callsign WB4APR. More information about APRS can be found at www.aprs.org or at wikipedia.

Unique features!

Imperial and Metric units

We support both Metric and Imperial units (like kmh, mph, km, miles, meter, yard and feet). In most cases we will select your preferred unit system automatically (based on your browser language settings). If you want to change unit system, just click on the settings symbol (a gear) in the upper left toolbox.

PHG and RNG circles

We support both PHG and RNG cricles. PHG stands for Power-Height-Gain (and directivity). PHG is used to calculate the relative RF range of a station (we calculate the range based on the reported power, height and gain). RNG is the "pre-calculated omni-directional radio range" of the station (and the RNG range is reported by the station itself).

Time Travel Is Possible!

We support global time travels (not only for a single station), just click on Travel in time in the menu, and select prefered date and time. If you only are interested in history for a single station we recommend the tab "History", found in the station details dialog.

Speed and altitude graphs

Open the "Trail" tab to the station details dialog, here you may see speed and altitude graphs for the latest month.

List of APRS symbols supported by APRS Direct

See our page about supported APRS Symbols. It is also possible to get a list of stations using a specified symbol (just click on the number of stations that is using the symbol).

Fast filters

If you click on the filter symbol, in the upper left toolbox, you will be able to filter out stations that you are not interested in. The selected category (eg CWOP stations, Internet stations or non-moving stations) will disappear from the map immediately.

Here you can change how long time a station should be visible.

In this tab we show all APRS packets of any packet type that has been added to the map.

In this tab we show APRS packets of type position that has been added to the map (note that any station may send a position packet).

In this tab we show all APRS packets of type object or item that has been added to the map.

In this tab we show APRS packets of type weather that has been added to the map (note that any station may send a weather packet, not only weather stations).

In this tab we show APRS packets of type direction finding, telemetry, message, query and status that has been added to the map.

 

Select date and time to show map data for (enter time for your locale time zone). The regular time length select box can still be used to select how old data that should be shown (relative to selected date and time).

*Note that the heatmap will still based on data from the latest hour (not the selected date and time).
